Why is it that so many high achievers end up on the bottle?

I expect all those years of hard work and determination to reach the top takes its toll and in the end some people probably just crack. Alcohol is the most accessible thing to make everything feel better (temporarily) so people turn to it but then it becomes addictive and that's when the problems start.
